Fraemohs supports sustainable building and wants to help customers understand the choices available when planning their new home.
This section of our website provides a brief overview of products and materials that will make your home energy efficient, healthy to live in and comfortable year round.
A home that is good for those who live in it and for the planet. We also provide where appropriate a link to supplier websites for further information.
What is SUSTAINABILE BUILDING?
Robert Tromp, Manager of Monitoring and Research, EECA, Wellington, describes it as “A sustainable home is one that you can sustain and it in turn will sustain you”.
Areas of consideration include:
- Planning how your house sits on your section for best use of sun, shelter and privacy.
- Energy Efficiency through best use of windows, natural heat storage and ventilation.
- Building Materials including double glazing, insulation and renewable resources.
- Water Conservation with rain harvesting, greywater reuse and efficient fittings.
- Appliances/lighting including low energy use, timers and thermostats.
- Landscaping for good drainage, shade and growing fruit and vegetables.
- Use – low maintenance, comfort and health.
